The Pembina Institute is seeking a highly motivated student to join our Transportation policy team for a 16-week policy internship based out of any one of our five offices (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Toronto). This internship, running from May to August 2026, will provide research support and contribute to the development of policy solutions that advance decarbonization in the transportation sector.Who we are

Meet the team
The Transportation team works closely with internal and external partners to identify and build support for data-driven policy and program solutions. Our work takes a holistic approach, considering fleet operators, manufacturers, utilities, financial service providers, governments, workers, and communities. By advancing solutions that make electrification achievable, we help pave the way for a cleaner, more profitable, and sustainable transportation future.The opportunity
As an intern, we’ll be leaning on you to bring your analytical skills to bear on research, writing and analysis in the context of clean energy policy for the transportation sector.Your key responsibilities
Interns will be assigned to projects focused on one or more topics based on interest and expertise. You will:- Conduct quantitative and qualitative technical analyses.
- Conduct desktop research on policy best practices in different jurisdictions.
- Assist in drafting reports, articles, blogs and social media posts.
- Support the development of high-quality project deliverables, including presentations and Excel models.
- Update and maintain our public engagement database and email lists.
- Conduct interviews with key stakeholders from government, industry and civil society.
- Support the planning and execution of webinars and engagement sessions on various topics.
What we’re looking for
You are a student enrolled in one or more of the following fields at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution: engineering, sciences, economics, policy, environmental studies. You’re highly motivated and passionate about contributing meaningfully to transitioning Canada to clean energy — you’re driven to make an impact.What you bring
- General knowledge of climate science and environmental impacts of energy, acquired through education, volunteering or work experience.
- General knowledge of provincial policy and regulations in the sector.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Able to conduct quantitative and qualitative technical research in energy and environmental policy.
- Able to decipher complex technical matters and to convey complex matters in plain language.
- Self-motivated and results-oriented; can take initiative.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability and commitment to work hybrid, full-time (37.5 hours per week) from May 4th to August 28th, 2026.
Compensation
The rate is $25.00 per hour and will be paid in accordance with applicable legislation related to the Employment Standards Act for overtime, holiday and vacation pay.To apply
