The Pembina Institute is seeking an Analyst to join our Electricity team based out of our Toronto or Ottawa offices. Come help us advance research and policy development to reduce emissions from the electricity sector.Who we are

Meet the team
Our Electricity team works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the Pembina Institute maximizes its impact in decarbonizing Canada’s electricity sector. The team develops reports, analyzes market trends, and researches policy positions on the local and global economic impacts of the energy transition and energy policy.The opportunity
Reporting to the Director, you’ll provide research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, writing and policy advocacy support to the program team.Your key responsibilities
- Support projects from initiation to completion, ensuring projects align with organizational objectives, meet budgets, and contribute to the Pembina Institute’s reputation.
- Produce high-quality resources including primers, reports, presentations, webinars, briefing notes, and summaries of industry news and trends.
- Research and conduct technical, quantitative, and qualitative analysis.
- Synthesize research and analysis to inform the development of policy positions and recommendations.
- Provide the communications team with materials and content for external channels such as social media or newsletters.
- Implement components of the program strategy to build community, increase awareness, and provide effective educational tools, templates, and ongoing support to the team.
- Maintain constructive relationships with external stakeholders, including representing the Pembina Institute in internal and, as required, external meetings.
- Assist with securing additional funding through proposal development.
You are self-motivated and results-oriented, having the ability to take initiative and demonstrate your commitment to sustainability and social change. You have excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills along with high attention to detail. You have a strong ability to research and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, organizing your work and projects using software tools for data management and communications.
What you bring
- Minimum of one year of related work experience in a professional environment, such as industry, government or the not-for-profit sector.
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree in business, economics, law, public policy, or a related field. A combination of work experience and education may be considered.
- Prior experience with climate economics or similar economic analysis is highly valuable.
- Prior experience in corporate sustainability, climate tech or energy development considered an asset.
Compensation and benefits
The hiring range for the position is $61,800 to $68,495 annually based on a 37.5-hour work week, with a range maximum of $75,190. Within this range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, related experience, education and/or training, and internal equity.We know that to meet these ambitious goals, our people are the core. We also know that one size does not fit all, therefore we offer employees a flexible office and home schedule that allows individuals to find an optimal balance. Our employees receive a generous paid time-off package starting with four weeks of vacation, time to cover health and wellness, professional development and offices closed annually from December 25 to January 1. In addition, we offer RRSP matching, parenthood top-ups, extended health and dental benefits, and yearly development funds.
